Yarra Trams supports international climate change TV campaign
In the lead up to World Environment Day (5 June 2008), Yarra Trams is supporting a major international campaign to promote public transport.
Yarra Trams is a signatory to the UITP (International Association of Public Transport) Sustainable Development Charter.
The charter encourages organisations to take the lead in sustainable development as a strategic business objective.
Yarra Trams reports on its environmental performance and shares its experiences of sustainable development practices with other UITP members.
UITP and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have launched a joint television campaign to encourage individuals to take public transport - a mobility choice that can help reduce the carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.
The advertisement, called ‘The voice of reason (Aged 6)’, is in the style of a child’s drawing and views the world through a little girl’s eyes.
This gives it an emotional appeal and a voice of hope for the future.
It signs off with the message, ‘The world is your home. Look after it.’
The commercial is being screened on major international TV networks to coincide with World Environment Day in June 2008.
