Grand Prix Parking + Riding

27/02/2002

For the quickest way to the Australian Grand Prix this year, spectators can park their car at Colonial Stadium, Batman Hill or Victoria Harbour at the Docklands and take a tram to the circuit for just $7.00.

From 7.00am to 7.00pm on Thursday, 28th February only, all day parking will cost only $7.00 at Colonial Stadium and the tram will take you straight to Albert Park - Gates 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1st, 2nd and 3rd March, all day parking is available at Batman Hill or Victoria Harbour at the Docklands.

Grand Prix spectators can walk to Spencer Street to catch sponsored shuttle trams to the event.

Chief Executive of Yarra Trams, Hubert Guyot, says: ''Parking in the city is virtually impossible during this busy time in Melbourne, and parking venues can charge astronomical fees.''

''Public transport really is the way to get to and from the race that stops the city, and for those that need to use their car, Colonial Stadium, Batman Hill and Victoria Harbour car parks offer a great deal and a convenient location.''

Extra services have been scheduled during the four days of the Grand Prix with trams running from Spencer Street to Albert Park. Trams will leave up to every minute during peak hours.

Sponsored Grand Prix shuttle trams are available from Spencer Street and St Kilda Road travelling to and from the race circuit, which means that passengers will not need a ticket for that section of their journey.

Passengers for all other public transport services will still need to have a valid ticket for their journeys.

Further details of Yarra Trams services during the Grand Prix are available on board trams, in the public notices section of newspapers, in Grand Prix brochures and on the Yarra Trams web site: www.yarratrams.com.au.
