Yarra Trams serves up free shuttle trams for Australian Open

Tennis fans heading to and from the Australian Open from 14 to 27 January 2008 will be able to travel free on special Yarra Trams shuttle services thanks to a sponsorship deal with Tennis Australia.

The free shuttle trams between the city (Flinders Street) and Melbourne Park will be available to all Australian Open ticket holders including those with Ground Passes.

Tennis fans travelling to the Australian Open from the city can board a free shuttle tram in Flinders Street.

Australian Open ticket holders will be able to enter Melbourne Park directly from the tram platform stops at Rod Laver Arena and Vodafone Arena.

The shuttle trams will continue to operate from Melbourne Park back into the city up to one hour after the completion of play, no matter what time the action ends (including twilight and night sessions).

This is the ninth consecutive year that Yarra Trams has been associated with Melbourne’s summer of tennis.  In 2007, a total of 380,304 spectators took a free shuttle tram to and from the Australian Open.  That’s a third of the entire crowd.

The Chief Executive Officer of Yarra Trams Dennis Cliche is enthusiastic about the partnership between Tennis Australia and Yarra Trams.

“Yarra Trams has worked with Tennis Australia to ensure that tennis fans can get to the Australian Open quickly and easily by tram.  The Yarra Trams partnership with Tennis Australia means tennis fans will be able to spend more time courtside and less time stuck in traffic,” he said.
