Timetable Changes
Yarra Trams actively works with the Victorian Government to retain the full existing passenger network of tram services across Melbourne. Timetables cannot be altered by Yarra Trams except through prior approval by the Government.
Timetable Changes
When there are any proposed timetable changes, Yarra Trams will notify customers seven days in advance through posters inside trams and at stops along the affected route, on our website, and through advertisements in the major and relevant local newspapers.
Service Disruptions
Whenever possible, Yarra Trams will provide alternative transport for passengers affected by both planned and unplanned service disruptions. We will also make announcements on board trams to keep passengers informed about the disruption, the expected delay time and what, if any, alternative transport arrangements have been put in place.
In addition, Yarra Trams employs customer service staff who can assist passengers with unplanned service changes and during special events.
Tram Capacity
Yarra Trams will monitor services regularly to ensure that we are providing the best possible service delivery with optimum levels of passenger comfort. We will run extra services, whenever possible, where services reach capacity.
Yarra Trams will also provide additional services during special events and anticipated periods of heavy passenger loading where possible.
In addition to scheduled and ad hoc surveys, reports generated from the validation of Metcards provide us with our best ongoing indication of tram usage.
Help us to better plan Melbourne’s tram services by validating your Metcard every time you board, to ensure that we have the most accurate data on passenger loading.
Passenger numbers on trams will vary because one of the advantages of frequent public transport services is that people can just turn up and travel. There are higher levels of demand during the morning and afternoon peak periods. Unfortunately this does mean that there will inevitably be times when there are more people on a tram than the number of seats available. However, standing room is usually available when all seats are taken.
Crowding can occur during the peak hours when the frequency of services is at its highest. All available trams are in service during peak hours. Sometimes it may be to the passenger’s benefit to wait for the next tram.
City Circle Tram
Yarra Trams will continue to provide the very popular City Circle service for tourists and anyone who wishes to take in the sights of Melbourne from a heritage W Class tram. The Victorian Government is committed to providing free travel on the City Circle Tram for all Victorians and visitors to Melbourne. On board announcements point out landmarks along the route such as Federation Square, Flagstaff Gardens, the Docklands Precinct and Treasury Place.
Heritage
Yarra Trams will work with the Victorian Government to honour its commitment to keep the heritage W-Class trams in service.
