Horse Drawn Trams

Melbourne's first tramway was a horse drawn tramway, which opened in 1884 to carry passengers from Fairfield Railway Station to Thornbury.

More were introduced over the next few years, at the time the first cable trams were being developed, but they were not widely adopted and ran only for short distances.
