Westgarth stops now open

Two new central island platform stops on High Street, Northcote will help improve access for tram passengers along Route 86.

The stops, part of the first stage of tram improvement upgrades along High Street from Westgarth to Reservoir, are 'shared' by passengers accessing trams travelling in both directions in a similar way to existing stops at Flinders and Swanston Street and Melbourne University.

The stops feature design elements, endorsed by Darebin City Council, designed to compliment the historical architecture of the area.

Pedestrian crossings and ramps at either end of the platform enhance safety for passengers crossing the road to enter or exit trams.

Accessible tram stops are also under construction in Northcote, at the Northcote Town Hall (Stop 31) and Northcote Social Club (Stop 32).

The tram improvements project is a partnership between VicRoads, the Department of Transport, Yarra Trams, the Department of Planning and Community Development and Darebin City Council
