As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra
Trams and Public Transport Victoria are repairing tram tracks on
Swanston Street in the CBD between A'Beckett Street and Victoria
Worn and broken sections of tram tracks on Swanston Street
between A'Beckett Street and Victoria Street require replacing.
This track work will improve tram safety and ensure that Yarra
Trams is able to maintain a safe and reliable network.
Major work will commence at 2:00am on Monday 9 January 2017 and
will continue until 5am Tuesday 10 January 2017.
Residents and businesses within the work zone will not have
vehicle access to driveways during the work period.
Route 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72 will be affected. For

The work zone will be cordoned off for safety but footpaths will
remain open to allow pedestrian access to businesses and residences
within the work zone.
There will be a full closure of Swanston Street between
A'Beckett Street and Victoria Street from 2:00am on Monday 9
January until 5am on Tuesday 10 January 2017.
Detours will be in place with traffic diverted around the work
Noise and dust from machinery, vehicles and work crews is
unavoidable but Yarra Trams will do all it can to keep this to a
