Public Transport Victoria and Yarra Trams will soon install a
temporary substation on Flinders Street, opposite Bond Street. This
prefabricated structure will be lifted into location by a crane on
the night of Tuesday 27 June (early morning Wednesday 28 June).
This temporary substation will be placed adjacent to the current
substation and then be commissioned into service to provide power
to the tram network whilst the permanent substation undergoes
asbestos remediation works.
The prefabricated substation building will soon be delivered and
installed by crane on-site.
The work will take place from 10pm Tuesday 27 June to
8am to Wednesday 28 June 2017.
Traffic management will be in place on Flinders Street,
involving full and partial lane closures between Elizabeth Street
and Queen Street. Delays are expected and it is recommended that
motorists avoid the area during this period. To ensure the lift is
carried out safely, traffic management will be implemented for both
motorists and pedestrians with appropriate detours in place. Please
heed warning signs and follow the direction of traffic controllers.
Tram services will not be affected.
Businesses and residents can expect to hear some
construction-related noise. As works will be carried out during the
