Acland Street Upgrade

Public Transport Victoria (PTV), the City of Port Phillip and Yarra Trams are working together to revitalise the streetscape and upgrade the tram terminus on Acland Street, St Kilda. These works are part of the end-to-end upgrade of Route 96, Melbourne’s busiest tram route, and are critical to improving the network.


June 2016 performance results

Yarra Trams’ service delivery in June was slightly lower than the same time last year, with 98.94 per cent of timetabled services delivered. Punctuality improved year-on-year, with 85.41 per cent of services arriving on time. Both service delivery and punctuality improved on last month, with punctuality almost 2 per cent higher than in May. University exams at the Showgrounds affected the performance of Essendon lines, whilst freeway accidents and rallies in the CBD affected services from other depots. Extra services were provided for the university exams as well as for a number of sporting events including AFL and rugby league. Important tram track renewal works were successfully delivered this month on Whitehorse Road and at Camberwell Junction, as well as works in preparation for the Acland Street terminus upgrade.


Collins Street and Gurners Lane, Melbourne - minor civil works

Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria (PTV) will be carrying out finishing works on Collins Street and Gurners Lane as part of the completion of the level access tram stop on the corner of William Street.


Flemington Road track renewal

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne’s tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are renewing tram tracks at the intersection of Flemington Road and Abbotsford Street in North Melbourne. To minimise future disruptions, Yarra Trams will also be repairing sections of tram tracks on Flemington Road between Abbotsford Street and Peel Street.


First anniversary of CBD Tram Hub!

Yarra Trams has today celebrated the first anniversary of Tram Hub, our ‘depot for people’. Tram Hub is a showcase of best practice in public transport, bringing all parts of the business together under one roof for the first time in the 110-year history of Melbourne’s tram network.


New technology to help improve tram network planning

Yarra Trams is trialling the use of beacon technology as a potential tool to help plan future tram services. The trial aims to use non-identifiable data to understand how many people use specific tram stops or trams, to better understand the usage patterns of the network.


May 2016 performance results

Yarra Trams' service delivery in May was fairly consistent with the same time last year, with 98.86 per cent of timetabled services delivered. Punctuality was significantly higher year-on-year with 83.68 per cent of services arriving on time. Incidents during the month that affected services included heavy rain on Thursday 26th during the AM peak, road traffic in the sporting precinct during events, and road traffic diverting away from freeway upgrade works. Tram track renewal works on Glenferrie Road at Malvern Depot were completed this month whilst works began to prepare for the Acland Street terminus upgrade which will deliver a more accessible, reliable, and safe service for all our passengers.


Camberwell Junction track maintenance

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne’s tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are repairing tram tracks and overhead wires at Camberwell Junction. Major work will take place at the entrance of Camberwell Tram Depot on Riversdale Road, with additional overhead wire works occurring on Burke Road.


April 2016 performance results

Yarra Trams' service delivery in April was fairly consistent with the same time last year, with 98.69 per cent of timetabled services delivered. Punctuality improved year-on-year with 82.6 per cent of services arriving on time, an improvement of 1 per cent on last month. Flow-on road traffic from freeway widening works continues to affect our services, as did some days of heavy rain and a number of third-party road incidents. Extra services were provided for a number of sport and concert events throughout the month as well as for the Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance. Tram track renewal works on Glenferrie Road at Malvern depot were successfully delivered this month which will support safe and comfortable commuting, as well as works on Nicholson Street in East Coburg.


Yarra Trams supports Sacred Heart Mission Dine with Heart Month

Yarra Trams is supporting the Sacred Heart Mission Dine with Heart month again in 2016. Popular restaurants from across Melbourne are coming together to support the Dine with Heart month - dine out and contribute to a worthwhile cause at the same time. More than 60 venues across St Kilda, the city of Port Phillip and Melbourne’s CBD will work together to raise funds to help those in need – some will create unique fundraising events in-house; others will encourage customers to add a small donation to their final bill; whilst others will create signature dishes especially for Dine with Heart Month.


Whitehorse Road track maintenance

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne’s tram network, Yarra Trams and Public Transport Victoria are renewing tram tracks and overhead wires on Whitehorse Road in Balwyn. Major works will take place between Weir Street and Banool Road.


Past meets future at new home of E-Class trams

Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan, joined local Member Robin Scott and the Chair and CEO of Yarra Trams to officially open the new Preston Tram Depot and Workshop today.
