As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra
Trams will be upgrading the overhead tram cables and tracks
along Carlisle Street between Barkly Street and Orange
Grove, and along Chapel Street between Dandenong Road and Rosamond
Street.

Tram service changes:
During the major works, the following tram service changes
will be in place.

Route 3 and 3a services will divert via
Dandenong Road at St Kilda Junction in both directions.
Route 16 services will operate in two sections
between Stop 1 Melbourne University and Stop 138 Luna Park as well
as between a temporary stop at the intersection of Carlisle Street
and Orange Grove and the Kew Terminus. A shuttle bus service will
operate between Stop 40 Hotham Street and Stop 133 Canterbury
Road.

From the start of the major works until first tram service
on Wednesday 12 June, the following tram service changes
will be in place.

Route 78 and 79 will operate between the North
Richmond Terminus and Stop 42 Dandenong Road. Route 78 and 79
services will resume normal operation

Location of major tram works &
road closures:

As per the schedules below, the preliminary
works to prepare the site for construction will commence
on Monday 20 May 2013. The major
works will take place over the Queen's Birthday long
weekend, between approximately 10pm Friday 7 June and 5am
Thursday 13 June 2013.

The renewal of overhead infrastructure and more than 800 metres
of double track will improve safety for everyone, as well as
delivering a better road surface for motorists and cyclists, a
smoother ride for tram passengers and less tram noise associated
with potholes and broken rails.

Road closures during the major works will make it necessary for
all traffic to detour around the site. All roads will open to
traffic and trams will resume normal service on Thursday 13 June
2013.
