Route 1 - Overhead wire and track works - Sunday 21 and Sunday 28 October

As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams will be renewing the overhead wires and tram tracks in South Melbourne on Sunday 21 October and Sunday 28 October 2012. The following service changes will apply:

Sunday 21 October 2012 - First tram to 4:00pm

Route 1 tram services will operate as Route 1a between East Coburg and Stop 14 Arts Precinct (trams to East Coburg will commence service at Stop 16 Southbank Boulevard).

Tram replacement buses will operate between Stop 14 Arts Precinct and the South Melbourne Beach terminus. Tram replacement buses will operate along the normal tram route. At platform stops, tram replacement buses will stop at temporary kerbside stops.

Sunday 28 October 2012 - First to last tram

Route 1 tram services will operate as Route 1a between East Coburg and Stop 14 Arts Precinct (trams to East Coburg will commence service at Stop 16 Southbank Boulevard).

Tram replacement buses will operate between Stop 14 Arts Precinct and the South Melbourne Beach terminus. Tram replacement buses will detour around the works zone travelling along Southbank Boulevard, City Road, Moray Street, Park Street, Montague Street, Bridport Street and Victoria Avenue in both directions. At platform stops, tram replacement buses will stop at temporary kerbside stops. Stops 17 to 23 will not be serviced.

Additional temporary tram stops will provided at the following locations:

  • Stop 16 Southbank Boulevard & St Kilda Road (to East Coburg)
  • Stop 17 Southbank Boulevard & Sturt Street (use 216 / 219 / 220 bus stops)
  • Stop 22 Moray Street

- north of Dorcas Street (to South Melbourne Beach)
- south of Dorcas Street (to East Coburg)

  • Stop 23 Park & Moray north of Park (to South Melbourne Beach)

Due to these changes, tram services will operate to their normal frequency, however they may not arrive at the scheduled time. Yarra Trams suggests that you allow extra time for your journey.
