As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra Trams will be renewing the overhead wires in Fitzroy Street near Grey Street in St Kilda on Tuesday 16 October and Wednesday 17 October 2012 from 8pm until last tram. The following service changes will apply: Route 16 trams will operate as Route 16a between Melbourne University and Kew diverting between Stop 30 St Kilda Junction and Stop 36 St Kilda Town Hall via St Kilda Road. Tram replacement buses will operate to a 10 minute frequency in both directions between Stop 29 Union Street & St Kilda Road and Stop 36 St Kilda Town Hall. Tram replacement buses will travel via Union Street, Punt Road, Fitzroy Street, The Esplanade and Carlisle Street. At platform stops, tram replacement buses will stop at temporary kerbside stops. Route 96 trams will operate as Route 96a between East Brunswick and Stop 132 St Kilda Station. Tram replacement buses will operate between a temporary tram replacement bus stop in Canterbury Road near Fitzroy Street and the St Kilda Beach terminus. Tram replacement buses will travel via Fitzroy Street, The Esplanade, Carlisle Street, Barkly Street and Acland Street. At platform stops, tram replacement buses will stop at temporary kerbside stops. Yarra Trams suggests that you allow extra time for your journey.
