Tram service changes will be in place for Route 12, 30, 70, 75,
96, 109 & City Circle trams due to tram improvement work at the
Flinders and Spencer streets intersection.
As part of the modernisation of Melbourne's tram network, Yarra
Trams and Public Transport Victoria are building a new level access
tram stop on Spencer Street and upgrading tram infrastructure in
the surrounding area. These works are critical to the ongoing
improvement of the network and will require a large construction
zone that will cause disruptions.
Route 12 trams will be replaced by low-floor
buses between St Kilda and Whiteman/Clarendon St.
Customers heading north from Whiteman/Clarendon St have the
option of either:
Extra Route 109a trams will operate between
Southern Cross Station, Spencer St and Victoria Gardens.
Route 30 trams will be extended to operate as
Route 30a between St Vincent's Plaza and
Waterfront City Docklands.
Route 96 trams will operate as Route
96a in two sections:
Extra Route 16 trams will operate between
Melbourne University and Luna Park from 8am to 8pm on weekdays.
Route 109 trams will operate as Route
109a in two sections:
Route 70 & 75 trams will operate as
Route 70a & Route 75a between Wattle
Park/Vermont South and Stop 2 King/Flinders Sts.
City Circle trams will operate between
Docklands and Flinders St Station, Elizabeth St via La Trobe St and
No trams will operate along Harbour Esplanade or Flinders St
between Stop D3 Etihad Stadium and Stop 2 King/Flinders Sts.
Docklands customers should consider using Collins or Bourke St
trams to connect.
Route 75 trams will be extended to operate as
Route 75a between Vermont South and Waterfront
City Circle trams will operate in a clockwise
direction only, and will not service Docklands Drive.
Please note that the existing Stop 123 at the corner of Flinders
Street and Spencer Street will be removed once the new level access
stop is complete to optimise the spacing between tram stops on
During these changes, trams and replacement buses will operate
to their normal frequency. However, they may not arrive at the

Casino Complex and Collins Street. No through traffic will be

Flinders Street. Traffic management will be in place, please refer
to map for recommended detour. Motorists can expect traffic
disruptions and are recommended to avoid the area during this

In the interest of public safety Yarra Trams will fence off the
entire work site. Footpaths will remain open around the work area,
maintaining pedestrian access to properties. Pedestrians will be
unable to walk through the Flinders and Spencer Streets
intersection and will be diverted around the work site.
